Teaching literature in a Yeshiva is important in many ways. The point of a Yeshiva is to teach Jewish students both religious and secular affairs. The whole purpose is to teach us both worlds so we know how to differentiate between them. Students should have some knowledge of the secular world which they live in. So the purpose of teaching literature in school is to give us knowledge of the secular life and to enhance our reading and writing skills. Also it's to prepare the students for college which literature is a very important asset.
